Nursing Homes

Be advised that the Commission on Aging and Special Needs Citizens does NOT make recommendations regarding who you should hire to provide you the services you need.

Our goal here is to make you aware of options and allow you to easily contact these facilities for more information.

To be listed here, a Nursing Home must be:

    1)  Within a reasonable driving distance from Carter County.  This is defined as within Carter, Boyd, Greenup, Lewis, Rowan, Elliott, or Lawrence Counties.

    2)  They must be licensed businesses within their respective counties.

    3)  They must be licensed by the state to provide Nursing services.

    4)  They must be insured against malpractice.

    5)  Their staff must have passed a background check.

Mini-Homes

Mini-Homes should be thought of very differently from formal Nursing Homes.  Mini-Homes can be similar to licensed nursing homes in many ways OR they can be little more than a couple with a spare room willing to help as they can.  These ‘facilities’ are, frequently, not licensed or approved by any agency.  Services are typically provided in otherwise private homes by willing but uncredentialed civilians.  The Staff to Resident ratio is generally much lower, there are fewer residents in the ‘facilities’, and the costs involved are generally much lower.

Caveat Emptor  -  Buyer Beware.  This is a situation in which you really MUST do your homework to assure that everything is truly acceptable.
